Kwanzaa

Kwanzaa is a celebration of African-American culture. It occurs each year annually from December 26-January 1. This is a time to celebrate African-American heritage, culture, and tradition. Kwanzaa was first celebrated in 1966 as a way to bring together the African-American community in Los Angeles.

During the week-long celebration, activities include dancing, singing, drumming, poetry reading, and other activities. The culminating activities are a feast and gift-giving on the final day of Kwanzaa. All of these are focused on the seven core principles of Kwanzaa. These are unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.
