Kansas Day

Kansas Day is celebrated on January 29th of each year. This day marks the state’s admission to the union in 1861. Kansas Day was first celebrated in Paola Kansas in 1877.


It is celebrated in celebrations in schools and communities all around Kansas. It is popular for schools and visitors to come to Topeka and celebrate in the state’s capital There are many visitors to the capitol building on and around January 29th. The Sunflower Showdown basketball game between Kansas State and the University of Kansas is also played around this date.
