International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is celebrated on August 9th of each year. The goal of this day is to raise awareness and protect the rights of the world’s indigenous people. It also recognizes the contributions, culture, and achievements of indigenous people.

The idea for this day began in 1977 at a United Nations conference. Its original intent was to address discrimination against natives. Another goal was to raise awareness of indigenous peoples.
