Seesaw is a student digital portfolio and communication platform that empowers students to showcase their learning through photos, videos, drawings, text, and more. Teachers can assign activities, provide feedback, and keep families in the loop with real-time updates. Families can view their child’s work, celebrate progress, and stay connected with the classroom—all in one secure, easy-to-use app.
A Step-by-Step Guide
1. Click on "Clever Portal" from the list of bookmarks.
2. In the Clever Portal, find and click on "Seesaw".
3. On the Seesaw page, click “I’m a Teacher”.
4. Sign in using your email and password, or use the Google sign-in option.
5. Once logged in, you will wait for the District to populate your class from Clever, which populates from Synergy.
DO NOT create your own classes, or you will end up with multiple classes.
Option 1: Use a Clever QR Code
1. Open the Seesaw app on clever using their Clever QR code.
2. Click “I’m a Student”.
Option 2: Sign in with Google
1. Go to Seesaw App
2. Click “I’m a Student”.
3. Click Sign in with Google
4. Log in using your school email account
5. You’ll be directed to your class(es).
Option 1: Use a Clever QR Code
If the student logged in using Clever previously, they only need to click the Seesaw app on their TABLET to have access to their Seesaw class. They no longer need to go through Clever.
Option 2: Sign in with Google
If the student signed into Seesaw using their Google account previously, they must continue to go through Clever.
a. Sign into Clever using the Clever QR code
b. Click the Seesaw app inside of Clever
c. Click the Google sign in button
Option 1
1. Teacher clicks tool
2. Teacher enables family access
3. Teacher clicks add families
4. Teacher types in emails or phone numbers for parents of each student.
Option 2
1. Teacher clicks tool.
2. Teacher clicks add families.
3. Teacher clicks print invites and selects the language.
4. Teacher sends invites home and families can connect via the QR code on the invite.
Option 3
1. Teacher clicks tool.
2. Teacher clicks add families
3. Teacher clicks share an invite link.
4. Teacher copies and pastes invite link into an email or other forum to invite families.

2. Teacher clicks manage teachers.
3. Teacher enters one email at a time to invite co-teachers.

2. Teacher clicks Class Theme and selects a color
3. Teacher clicks Class Icon an avatar
Teacher clicks tools.
Teacher can create student groups.
Teacher can enable or disable student likes and comments.
Teacher can enable or disable student ability to see each other's work or that new items need approval.

2. Teacher clicks family likes, comments, and sharing.
3. Teacher can enable or disable family member permissions.

2. Teacher clicks manage folders.
3. Teacher clicks create folder and selects a color for the folder as well as a name. This is used to organize assignments.
4. Teacher clicks Show add to folder step to enable this to pop up with each post or assignment.
Post to Journal
1. Teacher clicks add.
2. Teacher clicks Post to Journal.
3. Teacher clicks the item they want to post. This will share out this item to all students and parents connected to the Seesaw class.
Clicking 'Photo' or 'Video' lets you take a new one. 'Upload' allows you to choose a file from your device
Assign Activity
Step 1: Teacher clicks add.
Step 2: Teacher clicks assign activity.
Step 3: Teacher can choose to pick from their saved library, create a new assignment, or pick from a shared library.
Step 4: Teacher clicks Assign on the desired assignment. Teacher can choose which students receive the assignment, change the start and end date, add to a folder, etc...
Step 5: Teacher clicks assign now.
Step 7: Assignments will show up under Activities, organized by date.
Resource Library- a searchable space inside Seesaw where teachers can:
Find pre-made activities designed by other educators and Seesaw experts.
Browse by subject, grade level, or standard.
Save and customize activities to meet the needs of your students.
Explore lessons in English and Spanish, and sometimes other languages.
Create Assignment from Scratch
Step 1: Teacher clicks Add.
Step 2: Teacher clicks
Assign Activity.
Step 3: Teacher clicks: Create Activity or Assessment.
Step 4: Teacher gives the activity a name.
Step 5: Teacher clicks -Create from Scratch.
Step 6: When complete, teacher clicks green checkmark. This will bring up a menu to add instructions, enable or disable student page addition, notes, standards, etc... You can fill out as much or as little as you want.
Step 7: Teacher clicks save. This will save it directly to the teacher's Seesaw library. Teacher can click Assign right away, or save it for a later date.
Step 8: Teacher can click the ... to have other options for the assignment. Saving it to a collection will help organize your teacher library.
Using Pre-Created Templates for Assignments
Step 1: Teacher clicks Add.
Step 2: Teacher clicks Assign Activity.
Step 3: Teacher clicks Create Activity or Assessment.
Step 4: Teacher gives the activity a name.
Step 5: Teacher picks a template to utilize.
Step 6: Teacher can add instructions or standards correlations.
Step 7: Click save. This will save it directly to the teacher's Seesaw library. Teacher can click Assign right away, or save it for a later date.
Step 8: Teacher can click the ... to have other options for the assignment. Saving it to a collection will help organize your teacher library.
Students Complete an Assignment
1. Student log in to Seesaw.
2. Students click the lightbulb to find the activity.
3. Students click the green Add Response button.
4. Students press the green checkmark to submit.
Students Edit an Assignment
1. If a student needs to edit an assignment they already turned in, they need to click Journal.
2. Once the assignment is located, they will click the ...
3. Students will click Edit Post.
4. Students make edits and click green checkmark to submit.
Students Save Assignment for Later
1. If a student is not finished with an assignment and will return to it later, they will click the draft button.
2. To find saved drafts, students will click Activities and In Progress to find it OR they can click Journal and click the orange Finish Response button.
3. Students will click the green checkmark to submit.
Archive Activities
If you do not want old activities to show up for your students, you need to click Activities, the ... on that specific assignment, and click Archive Activity.
This does not erase previous student work on this activity. Completed/submitted versions of this assignment will still show up on student journals. This only stops the assignment from popping up under activities.
Pencil
Click again to change the size.
Change the color using the bar on the right.
Marker
Click again to change the size.
Change the color using the bar on the right.
Highlighter
Click again to change the size.
Change the color using the bar on the right.
Glow Pen
Click again to change the size.
Change the color using the bar on the right.
Eraser
Click again to change the size or erase whole page.
Teacher clicks the microphone to record whatever the screen is doing, as well as audio. Red button on the side will pause it.
The screen will have a red border to signify it is recording. The red border will flash if it is paused.
You can record for 5 minutes. You must click Done to save the recording.
After you click done, the recording will pop up the size of the screen. You can resize the recording and move it any place. This is great to resize to just the playbutton to put audible instructions next to different sections of words on assignments. Click the play button to hear/see what has been recorded.
Camera
Click the camera to take a new photo, new video, or upload a photo/video from the device being used.
Assessment
Click the checkmark to create self-graded assessment questions or cards.
Text Tool
Clicking the text tool will pull up the keyboard on an ipad or allow you to type on a computer. You can type emojis from an ipad in these boxes.
Text Modifications
Clicking the ... will allow you to change font style, bold, etc. You can change the size of the text box as well as the color using the gradient bar on the right.
Ellipses
Clicking the ellipses will pull up additional creative options.
Shapes
Clicking shapes on the ellipses will allow you to insert Shapes, Math Widgets, or Flexcards; many of which are interactive when clicked. Once a shape is placed, you can change the style by clicking the ... on the shape, or you can change color, direction, etc...
Caption
Clicking caption under the ... allows you to write or record instructions for only the page you are on.
Pages
Open page sidebar by clicking the pages button.
Collapse the page sidebar by clicking the arrow.
Pages
Click the ... on a page to see options.
Click add page to have additional pages. Limit 20.
Icon Shortcuts
When typing instructions into an assignment, you can use these shortcuts for the tool image to show up.
Seesaw is often used to communicate with student parents; either for class announcements or one on one.
1. Teacher clicks Messages.
2. Teacher clicks the create message button and decides if it is a group announcement (to which parents can reply back to the group or back to you only) or if it is a one-on-one or small group (if the student has multiple parents connected) message.
3. Teacher clicks Add Recipients and can either type in a student or parent name, or Select the Audience.
4. Teacher clicks add to attach media.
5. Teacher can choose to schedule send the message.
