Students may check out the following number of books, based on grade level:
Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade – may check out one book that remains at school to enjoy reading in the classroom
3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades – may check out two books.
Students that return a library book contract may take a book home to read. Borrowing limits may be increased for special projects requested by their teacher.
Books are overdue after a one week period. Any students wishing to keep a book longer may renew their book at least once. Additional renewals may be granted as long as there are no requests for the book.
Books are checked out for one week for all students. Students need to return a book each week during library class or with a library pass to check out a new book. If books are not returned, then they cannot check out until the books are returned or the student agrees to be a library helper that week. Overdue book notices are given to students during library time to share with their teacher and parents.
We do not charge fines for overdue materials, but we do ask that compensation be made for lost or damaged books. Please visit with us concerning damaged books. Replacements rarely fit the qualifications for the heavy use a library book receives, and we may be able to repair the damage ourselves.
Book donations are accepted with the understanding that our librarian has the final decision as to whether the donation is appropriate for our library.
A "My Library Book Contract" note is sent home with second, third, fourth and fifth grade students for parents to review. Parents are asked to read the STAR behavior expectations, library expectations and book care notes. After reading the note, it is signed and returned to the school library. Parents may select the option for students to enjoy library books at school only or allow students to bring home books and enjoy reading them at home. The "My Library Book Contract " note must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to the library in order to take books home. The note is sent out with students the first week of library class and also during Parent Teacher Conferences. A Book Care coloring book is sent home with all Kindergarten and first grade students. All Kindergarten and First grade students will check out a library book and keep it at school to enjoy reading in the classroom.
