The expectation for DL teachers is to have the daily objective posted on the content board for each day. Some teachers use a dry erase pouch to write it each day, others create the objectives for the week and clearly label them for which day. Reference the slides below to learn how to create the daily objective.
The daily objective is a statement that contains two verbs directly relating to the standard and activity for the day.
ie. Today students will summarize key details from a text and critique the author's point of view.
The first verb will be at the comprehension level and the second verb with be at the application level or higher from the Bloom's Taxonomy verbs shown below.
Teachers should not be in the practice of using verbs from the knowledge level as this will not promote critical thinking skills.
The verbs can come directly from the standard. Remember, the standard is only the minimum that a student should learn, and we can elevate learning by using stronger verbs.
Read the standard
Determine whether to replace knowledge level verbs, keep comprehension level verbs as your first verb, keep application+ verbs as your second verb, or add application+ verbs as your second verb.
Shown to the right are examples of how objectives can look in a variety of contents.
AI has great tools for helping to create daily objectives following the above criteria.
