It’s cold, covid and flu season!
A few tips to help keep everyone healthy.
Hand washing: wash hands frequently, it helps to prevent the spread of infection. Hand sanitizers are a great alternative if soap and water are not available.
Cover your cough with tissue or shirt sleeve, dispose of used tissues, followed by hand washing or use of hand sanitizer.
Do NOT go to school or work with a fever! Stay home and get well; prevent spreading germs to others!
If covid positive stay at home for 5 days, may return on 6th day if feeling better with improved symptoms and no fever for 24 hours and wearing a mask. Call the school and ask for the nurse if questions.
Colds, and flu can be contagious for at least 48 hours. Returning to school too soon may slow the recovery process and expose others to illness. Please use the following guideline for staying home and returning to school/work:
Fever has been gone for 24 hours without medication.
Keep home 24 hours after the last vomiting or diarrhea episode.
Return to school 24 hours after antibiotic treatment begins.
Listed below are some additional guidelines you may wish to follow in deciding to stay home from school/work:
Fever of 100 or higher before taking medication to reduce the fever.
Vomiting or persistent diarrhea in the last 24 hours.
Excessive tiredness or lack of appetite.
Headache, sore throat, body aches, chills or an earache.
Persistent, productive cough, which has kept them up at night.
Rash
It’s not too late to get the flu or covid shot. The flu virus has multiple strains and can cause varying degrees of illness. It takes @ 2 weeks for the vaccination to fully work. For additional information on the flu go to www.cdc.gov and lucascountyhealth.com.

YOUTH AND ADOLESCENT SCHOOL-BASED SERVICES
New Concepts believes that healthy children and youth have an increased chance of achieving academic, social, and personal success. With this in mind, they have developed a school-based program that provides a variety of comprehensive, person-centered behavioral health services to school-age children experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
New Concepts has collaborated with Toledo Public Schools to provide on-site services (in the schools) and real-time interventions that assist students in overcoming mental health barriers to learning within the least restrictive, most natural environment. Their daily involvement in one of the most consistent aspects of their program participants' lives allows them to address and assist in processing common in-school issues such as stress, anxiety, bullying, family problems, depression, learning disabilities, PTSD, ADD, and ADHD, amongst other things.
Their team of on-site counselors, case managers, and supervisors have developed strong working relationships with the teachers, counselors, principals, and other school administrators, as well as the parents and/or guardians of program participants, to ensure a collaborative approach toward providing the best and most appropriate services and resources to their program participants.
To ensure that there is no lapse in care, services are also provided after school hours, during school holidays and breaks, and throughout the summer. This allows them to work with program participants year-round, drastically increasing the likelihood of positive outcomes such as behavioral modification, increased test scoring, grade improvements, and the overall growth and development of persons served.
This is the 2nd year New Concepts has been a partner with Ella P. Stewart Academy for Girls. Kya Collins and Sh'Dymond Pierce are the two staff members assigned to Stewart Academy.
