Exploring Languages in Regional Development Studies

国際地域専攻では、海外での活動の基礎となる「異文化コミュニケーション」の能力向上に力を注いでいます。充実した語学教育に加え、さまざまなイベントや研修を通じて「聞く・話す・書く」といった実践の機会を豊富に設けています。

The Department of Regional Development Studies places a strong emphasis on developing intercultural communication skills, which are essential for engaging in activities abroad. In addition to comprehensive language education, the department offers a wide range of practical opportunities to enhance listening, speaking, and writing skills through various events and training programs.

多彩な語学開講科目　Diverse Language Course Offerings

文化・歴史も視野に入れた幅広い外国語教育。充実の英語をはじめとして、中国語、韓国語、フランス語、スペイン語を学べます。

Our foreign language education is designed to encompass not only language proficiency but also cultural and historical perspectives. In addition to comprehensive English instruction, students can study Chinese, Korean, French, and Spanish.

英語による専門科目　Specialized Courses Taught in English

国内外の「地域づくり」に関わるにあたっては、地域の住民との密接なコミュニケーションが求められます。そして、国外に限らず、国内においても、自分の専門を英語で伝える能力が求められる時代になりました。そのための能力向上を目指す学生を対象とする講義です。英語で考え発表する能力を伸ばしていくことを目指します。

国際地域学科では、多くの2025年度には、約25科目の講義が英語で開講されています(*)。専門的な知識を英語で運用する力をつけるため、講義の内容は、経済学や社会学、環境学など幅広い分野にわたります。また、グローバル・イノベーション学科の科目も履修することができます。さらにグローバル・イノベーション学科と合同で、次のようなイベント、講義、研修を実施しています。異文化コミュニケーション能力をさらに高めようと、多くの学生が参加しています。

*原則、課程表の科目名が英語の科目は英語で開講されます。

o engage in regional development both in Japan and abroad, strong communication skills are essential. Today, the ability to explain one’s area of expertise in English is increasingly important, even within Japan. The Department offers specialized courses for students aiming to develop this skill, helping them think, discuss, and present effectively in English.

As of the 2020 academic year, approximately 25 courses were offered in English.* These span a wide range of fields including economics, sociology, and environmental studies. Students may also take courses offered by the Department of Global Innovation Studies. In collaboration with this department, we offer various joint events, lectures, and training programs to further enhance intercultural communication skills—many students actively participate in these opportunities.

* In principle, courses with English titles in the curriculum are conducted in English.

英語副専攻「ESP」　English SPecial Minor for Regional Develpment Studies (ESP)

国際地域学科では、国際社会での活躍を目指す皆さんのために、英語そのものの授業だけでなく、専門科目を英語で教える授業を増やしてきました。そして2009年秋より、英語力を高めようとする皆さんを支援するために、English SPecial Minor for Regional Development Studies (ESP)を開始しています。

To support students aspiring to succeed in the global arena, the Department of Regional Development Studies has steadily increased the number of specialized courses taught in English. In fall 2009, we launched the English SPecial Minor for Regional Development Studies (ESP) program.
