Examples of financial planning for university expenses using scholarships and various financial supports

Master's Program

   If you receive the "Toyo University Graduate School Scholarship (Category 1)" (current students)

This scholarship is provided to those who have excellent academic performance and personality and who meet the prescribed criteria. The annual scholarship amount is 300,000 yen. If you receive the scholarship, practically you can reduce the amount of tuition and facility/lab fees to 240,000 yen.

  Examples of other financial supports available

 If you receive Partial Tuition Waiver for privately financed international students 

 (Reference: 153 students received this support in AY2022)

If you are a privately financed international student whose status of residence is "Student" and meet the prescribed criteria, you can receive the "Partial Tuition Waiver for Privately Financed International Students" and the tuition will be reduced by 30%.


 If you make academic conference presentations or research paper publications 

 (Reference: grants were awarded for 318 presentations made in AY2023)

Grants are awarded for academic conference presentations and research paper publications up to twice a year for the master’s program. Academic conference presentations are awarded 20,000 to 200,000 yen depending on the distance to the presentation venue or area, and research paper publications are awarded 50,000 or 100,000 yen depending on the prescribed conditions.

(Reference: 100,000 yen will be awarded for publication in Scopus registered journals, and an additional 100,000 yen will be awarded for awards from academic societies.)


 

 If you take advantage of General Education and Training Benefit System 

 (Reference: 1 recipients (graduates) for AY2022)

If a qualified person who meets certain standards set by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare completes a Toyo University's course/concentration designated by the Ministry, the amount equivalent to 20% (up to 100,000 yen) of the education and training expenses of the admission fee and tuition paid to the University will be paid. The amount paid depends on your eligibility.

 If you take advantage of Professional and Practical Training Benefit System 

(Reference: 48 recipients for spring semester and fall semester AY2022)

This is a benefit system that is available only for the Course of Business, Accounting and Finance, Concentration in SME, the Graduate School of Business Administration, and the Course of Public-Private Partnership, Graduate School of Economics.

  Examples of on-campus employment (Tutor/Teaching Assistant)

Tutor: Hourly wage of 1,700 yen an hour x 15 hours a month = 25,500 yen a month

TA: Hourly wage of 1,700 yen an hour x 21 hours a month = 35,700 yen a month


Tutors mainly support the learning of international students.

Teaching assistants (TAs) mainly help with the undergraduate classes taught by their academic advisor.

Doctoral Program

   If you are awarded Research Fellowship for Young Scientist Program of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (current students)  

 (Reference: 4 graduate students were awarded this fellowship in AY2022)

If you are enrolled in the Toyo University Graduate Schools and are awarded Research Fellowship for Young Scientist Program of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, the entire tuition will be exempted.

   If you receive the "Toyo University Graduate School Scholarship (Category 1)" (current students)

This scholarship is provided to those who have excellent academic performance and personality and who meet the prescribed criteria. The annual scholarship amount is 300,000 yen. If you receive the scholarship, practically you can reduce the amount of tuition and facility/lab fees to 220,000 yen.

IIf you are a privately financed international student whose status of residence is "Student" and meet the prescribed criteria, you can receive the "Partial Tuition Waiver for Privately Financed International Students" and the tuition will be reduced by 30%.

Grants are awarded for academic conference presentations and research paper publications up to three times a year for the doctoral program. Academic conference presentations are awarded 20,000 to 200,000 yen depending on the distance to the presentation venue or area, and research paper publications are awarded 50,000 or 100,000 yen depending on the prescribed conditions.

(Reference: 100,000 yen will be awarded for publication in Scopus registered journals, and an additional 100,000 yen will be awarded for awards from academic societies.)

Tutor: Hourly wage of 2,000 yen x 15 hours a month = 30,000 yen a month

TA: Hourly wage of 2,000 yen x 19 hours a month = 38,000 yen a month
