The minimum annual hours contributions for the appointments currently available are as follows:
Part-Time Clinical Faculty (Assistant Clinical Professor, Associate Clinical Professor, Clinical Professor): 100 hours
Clinical Faculty (Clinical Instructor, Clinical Scholar): 50 hours
Clinical Adjunct Faculty (no rank): 10 hours

Part-Time Clinical Faculty
Part-time clinical faculty are clinicians who contribute at least 100 hours per year to the following pillars of the School of Medicine.
Clinical Service (required)
Teaching and Educational Activities
Scholarly, Research and Creative (SRC) Activities
Service and Leadership Activities
All part-time clinical faculty are expected to contribute clinical service. Additional expectations are as follows based on rank. Click on a rank to read more about it in the School of Medicine's Clinical Faculty Policy.
Assistant Clinical Professors must contribute to at least one additional pillar
Associate Clinical Professors must contribute to at least two additional pillars
Clinical Professors must contribute to all pillars
Clinical Faculty
Clinical faculty are clinicians who contribute at least 50 hours per year to the pillars of the School of Medicine listed above. These individuals are expected to provide Clinical Service as well as Teaching and Educational Activities. Participation in additional activities is not expected, but can be requested.

Clinical Scholar is an entry-level role given to early career clinical faculty members who are in their first clinical faculty appointment. Clinical Scholars are considered equivalent to Clinical Instructor in function; however, they are expected to be engaging in concurrent training to advance their personal academic goals (e.g., Fellowship/Diploma, MSc, PhD, JD, LLM, etc.).
Clinical Instructor is a role given to those who have decided to focus exclusively on teaching and clinical care as their areas of focus. Normally, it is expected that Clinical Instructors will seek promotion within 5-6 years to the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor.

Clinical Adjunct Faculty
Clinical adjunct faculty are clinicians who contribute at least 10 hours per year to clinical supervision, SRC activities and innovation, or other meaningful educational activities aligned with the mission of the School. Clinical adjunct faculty appointments are status only and are not normally remunerated by TMU; they are also not eligible for an academic rank.
