Black-Founded Academic Achievement Programs
The Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program was established in the name of the late NASA mission specialist, who perished in the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. The program’s goal is to encourage and prepare students who are traditionally underrepresented in college to pursue graduate studies – specifically, a Ph.D. The program provides a variety of academic support and services.
The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) at California State University Dominguez Hills is part of a statewide and national effort to broaden the participation in science, mathematics, engineering and technology (STEM) disciplines, and is a joint project between the National Science Foundation and the California State University system. The goal of the LSAMP is to increase the number of individuals who have faced or face social, educational or economic barriers to careers in STEM.
The mission of the Male Success Alliance is to improve access, retention, and graduation rates of boys and men of color by providing academic support, professional development, and mentoring. The program aims to support the college and career success of boys and men of color by utilizing a holistic approach to promote brotherhood and community through cultural awareness and identity development.

The Africana Studies Department offers students the opportunity to study the historical, literary, and contemporary realities of the African world experience. In addition to its curricular offerings, the Department provides students with wide range of academic and cultural programs and activities designed to enhance their learning experiences.
New African Grove Black Theatre Program (BTP), is committed to staging works by new and established African-American dramatists, that illuminate the African-American experience for people of all ages and ethic groups. In addition to staging plays, the BTP also offers special topics courses, guest artist workshops, educational tours, and community outreach throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
The purpose of Institute is to study the history of African American elected officials, business, and community leaders. The Mervyn M. Dymally African American Political and Economic Institute (MDAAPEI) will work to build institutional memory through oral history projects, and to study and debate the effects of public policy on African Americans and the communities in which they live.
Sisters United
Sisters United
Sisters United is designed to pair Black female students with Black faculty and staff members who share the same career interests or academic backgrounds in common. Mentors make contact with their mentee at least twice a month. Sisters United also hosts monthly mixers for mentors and mentees to interact with other student-mentor pairs and to share information with students on issues including campus resources, time management, and sexual health.
Sisters United has grown to encompass the needs of all African and African American female students at California State University, Dominguez Hills. By facilitating one-on-one mentorships with faculty or staff members, the program has been instrumental in ensuring the success of students by helping them balance maintaining academic excellence with all other aspects of their lives.
