Just click on the type of device your child uses below. To find out what’s blocked, read here - https://switchonsafety.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/N4L_SwitchONSafety_Blocks.pdf
Safety can’t be provided by technology alone – it requires a holistic approach. For tips and advice to support online safety conversations with your whānau check out Netsafe. - https://www.netsafe.org.nz/parenttoolkit/
1) Don’t post any personal information online – like your address, email address or mobile number.
2) Think carefully before posting pictures or videos of yourself. Once you’ve put a picture of yourself online most people can see it and may be able to download it, it’s not just yours anymore.
3) Keep your privacy settings as high as possible
4) Never give out your passwords
5) Don’t befriend people you don’t know
6) Don’t meet up with people you’ve met online. Speak to your parent or carer about people suggesting you do
7) Remember that not everyone online is who they say they are
8) Think carefully about what you say before you post something online
9) Respect other people’s views, even if you don’t agree with someone else’s views doesn’t mean you need to be rude
10) If you see something online that makes you feel uncomfortable, unsafe or worried: leave the website, turn off your computer if you want to and tell a trusted adult immediately.

Google Classroom, ā Google Hangouts/Meet and Gmail are the main platforms that students will be using for their online learning journey. Below is a brief description of how they could be used. Please remember that this is a new way of teaching and learning for all of us. I have tried to include youtube clips to help where possible but there is always going to be questions when there is unknown. I encourage you to talk to your child about how they are using the apps and ask them to show you how the different apps. work. One of the positive aspects of online teaching and learning is that your child will be able to share their learning with you as they do it, rather than just waiting till the end of the year. However, if you still have questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
Google Classroom is our digital classroom. Through this site students will be able to see their work tasks, receive grades/feedback and be able to communicate with other students and the teacher. One of the advantages of Google Classroom is that it keeps all students learning in one place.
Students are already familiar with Google Classroom as we have used it in Term 1, and many used it last year.
This year (2020) Google has combined both Google Hangout and Google Meet; creating a real-time video conferencing platform. This will allow us to meet as a whole class, in learning groups or for individual conferencing. It is a simple method to give face to face in a digital environment.
