We strive to help children learn to read Chinese independently by the age of 8-9!
We insist on speaking Chinese at home, listening to stories whenever possible, and capitalizing on the 4-7 years old sensitive period for literacy. We read graded picture books together daily, and borrow their favorite Chinese storybooks from the PVA Library for parent-child reading. We also organize in-person activities!
Listening to stories every day is crucial, even in the car. Recommended platforms include Himalaya for Kids, Uncle Kai's Storytelling, and Qian'erba.

Please organize your own reading group by joining forces. Discuss the time and content of your reading, set your own schedule and start and end times (for example, complete Level 5 of Little Lamb and learn 300 words in three months). It's recommended to find people of similar skill levels, with no more than six children in the younger group. Our experience serves as a reference: Monday through Friday, starting at 7:40 PM, parents take turns leading the reading for 20 minutes each night. Each child takes a turn reading aloud a paragraph. Start with Level 1 of Little Lamb Goes Up the Mountain, supplemented with some Yuedu and Disneyland. I'll read on my own. Later, I'll read Preschool Fast Reading 600, Yiyueqiqi, and Mobi Loves Reading, along with Peppa Pig. After that, you can move on to the Chinese language textbooks compiled by the Ministry of Education.
