My name is Katelyn Culwell, Miss Culwell, and I am so excited to be in my fifth year of teaching here at Twin Lakes Christian!
I spent the 2020-2021 school year teaching in Santa Cruz in a second-grade classroom (August - Mid-March) at Westlake Elementary School and then took over as the teacher of record during the transition to hybrid instruction and fully in-person instruction in a first-grade classroom (Mid-March - May) at DeLaveaga Elementary School.
I spent the 2021-2022, 2022-2023, 2023-2024, and 2024-2025 school years here at Twin Lakes and am excited to continue!
I was born in Oregon but moved here to Santa Cruz County when I was a year old. I've been raised in this county and have never left. I am the oldest of five children, four girls, and one boy. My sister Kelsey and her family, along with my brother Caleb and his children all live in Oregon. My middle sister got married in May of 2023 and she and her husband have one daughter and one baby boy on the way...due in October. They live in Columbia, South Carolina, where my parents just moved to in September 2024 to be closer to the newest grand baby (almost babies). My baby sister, Kindsay, is also in Columbia, South Carolina, and started her new nursing career in May 2025!
My grandfather was a pastor at Granite Creek Church (it's now called Gateway Bible Church) and started Baymonte Christian School while he was pastoring. My dad took over from him and was my pastor while I was growing up. My dad then became a police officer when I was in high school and has since retired and loves being able to spend as much time as he can with his grandkids. My mom was a stay-at-home mom until the youngest was in Kindergarten and spent her working years at Baymonte Christian and Green Valley Christian Schools. She was at Green Valley the seven years I taught preschool and it was so fun having her and my aunt on the same school campus.
I have five nieces and one nephew (almost two)! Being an auntie is my favorite thing ever, besides teaching! My sister Kelsey gave me Lydia Jean (11), Nora Kate (9), and Bruin Ford (6), my brother gave me Olive Jo (7) and Avery May (4) and my sister Kyleigh gave me Aylah Elizabeth (1) and a nephew that will be here in October of THIS year and I can't WAIT to meet him!
I'm an open book, so any questions or wonderings you have, please ask them!
Now I can't wait to get to know all of you!
