Past Papers: Find past papers online and complete exam questions. Mark schemes are available to check as well. Past papers can be found here.
Examiners reports: These have examples of different answers and will always show a top level answer to a question. Reports can be found here.
Mindmap: Pick a theme or topic to centre at the middle of your mindmap, e.g. Medieval medicine. Draw lines coming out of this to annotate with information relevant to that topic. Further develop your mindmap by drawing arrows between different points and explain how they link to each other.
Timeline: Draw a line in the middle of a page or across a piece of A3 paper. Add the starting year at the beginning and end year at the end, e.g. 1941-1991. Add events that take place under the key years, e.g. 13th August 1961 Berlin Wall is constructed. Further develop your timeline by colour coding each event corresponding to the theme it best matches, e.g. blue for ideologies, green for arms/space race, red for treaties signed).
Flashcards: Write a question on one side of a card and the answer on the other side. These can be used for key figures, key events and dates, causes and consequences, key facts, short quiz-style questions and answers. To revise using this read the question on one side, say or write the answer and then check the back to see if you were correct. Effective flashcards will have short bitesize information on them (do not overload them) and effective use will see repeated practice.
Oral discussion: Pick a topic and explain what happened to a friend or family member. Give as much detail as possible. Treat it as if you are teaching them about the subject.
