This exam is worth 40% of your final grade
This paper will last for 1 hour and 30 minutes
Section A relates to the knowledge and understanding of choreographic processes and performing skills.
Section B relates to the critical appreciation of own work. Questions will relate to students’ own experience of performance, or choreography or both from within the course.
Section C relates to the critical appreciation of professional works within the anthology.
Know the Anthology – Memorise key facts about the six professional works (choreographer, stimulus, structure, costume, lighting, aural setting).
Mind Maps – Use them to connect choreographic devices (eg- motif development, contrast, climax) with examples from set works.
Key Terminology – Practice definitions of physical, technical, expressive, and mental skills using flashcards.
Use Past Papers – Answer exam-style questions and focus on structuring longer written responses clearly.
Link Theory to Practical – When revising performance and choreography, relate it back to your own dance experience.
Refine Technique – Regularly practise core technical skills (eg- alignment, balance, flexibility) to improve execution.
Film Yourself – Watch back your performances to identify areas for improvement in movement quality and expression.
Strength & Stamina – Train your body with conditioning exercises to improve endurance for practical assessments.
Motif Development Practice – Take a simple movement phrase and experiment with changes in dynamics, space, and relationships.
Relax, Perform & Enjoy – Confidence is key! Use facial expressions and projection to engage the audience. But make sure you enjoy it!
