First Tee Coach Job Summary :

• Guiding and coaching young people to become responsible future citizens and committed, active golfers

• Positively impacting their lives through The First Tee Golf and Life Skills Experience using lesson plans and The First Tee Coach Building Blocks. Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain a professional and cordial attitude towards co-workers, volunteers, participants and their parents 

• Become proficient in the delivery of the First Tee updated curriculum

• Maintain consistent and regular attendance, commence and end scheduled lessons on time, and convey the Chapter’s brand image to the public

• Conduct pre lesson coaching sessions for coaches and volunteers at least 15 minutes prior to the start of every lesson  

• Monitor the quality of equipment/grounds and inform the Director of Programming of equipment needs. Maintain and organize all equipment storage areas 

• Encourage and assist qualified youth to participate in more competitive golf tournaments, chapter special events, and chapter fundraisers

• Make the game fun for youth participants, provide a safe environment in all areas, adhere to the standards of The First Tee Code of Conduct, be charismatic, personable, and motivational in working with youth

• Be available to attend academies, regional and annual meetings, chapter events, and training sessions

Procedures for Canceling a Class or Needing Coverage for a Class:

1. WEATHER-RELATED Cancellations:

1. Use the REMIND platform to send a CLASS ANNOUNCEMENT to all members/parents of the class.

2. Send the REMIND announcement AT LEAST 1 HOUR PRIOR to the start of class, if possible. CALL YOUR PARTNER COURSE, if applicable, so the pro shops know in case anyone shows up or calls them.

3. You can also send a “We are watching the weather closely” message the night before or in the morning and tell parents your plan of when you are “making the call to cancel or not” and to check REMIND for updates.

4. If you cancel due to weather, you need to also state your plan for the make-up class. You are required to make-up ONE class that has been canceled due to weather. Your options are:

   1. Add a class to the end of the season (after week 8) - same day and same location; list the date and time of your make-up class in your REMIND announcement; this is preferred and the easiest to manage

   2. Add the time missed over several classes (example: for classes that are 1 hour long, add 15 minutes to the end of 4 upcoming classes or 30 minutes to 2 upcoming classes); this is more difficult to manage since it may not fit into a family's schedule or future bad weather cancels another class 

5. If a second class during a season has to be canceled, we will require a digital assignment to be sent to families within a day of the missed class. 

   1. Please email those ideas/lessons/plans/links to Jennifer Nolan and she will email the resources to all families in that class (Jennifer@FirstTeeJerseyShore.org)

   2. Examples can include a few YouTube videos to watch, a few at-home drills to practice, or a character building activity (see the coach lesson plans on the Coach’s Corner website for ideas Curriculum LINK)   Reach out to Jennifer for help on this, she will help you create a plan (732-904-8809).

6. If 3 or more classes are canceled due to weather, we will issue a prorated credit to the families that does not expire. Tara and Jennifer will take care of this and it can be used when registering for future classes.

7. Refer to local golf course policies regarding lightning, thunder, and high winds.

2. Class Coverage Needed:

If you cannot attend one of your scheduled classes, please let us know immediately so that we can look for coverage. Call/text Jennifer or Tara as soon as you know about a possible coverage needed. We want to limit class cancellations and will find adequate coverage for you.
