Job Title: Camp Teacher
Reports To: Camp Manager
Effective Dates: June 23, 2025 - August 29, 2025 | 1-week minimum.
Working Hours: 30-hours/week, 8:00-2pm, Monday-Friday, daytime hours
Salary Level: $25-30/hour based on experience. $200 early sign-on bonus for staff commitments made by February 29, 2025, for 2-weeks or more; paid following the successful completion of the contracted weeks.
Employment Status: Temporary, Hourly, Non-exempt
Mandatory Orientation: June 7th and 14th from 9-3pm
Who We Are:
Joppa Hill Educational Farm is a nonprofit educational farm committed to preserving a working farm that provides enriching educational experiences, fosters community connection, and cultivates a shared appreciation for New Hampshire’s agricultural heritage and natural environment. Our Farm and Forest Summer Camp provides children with the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow in a supportive and fun environment surrounded by our 35-acre farm and trails.
Position Summary:
Joppa Hill Educational Farm seeks experienced educators to join our team this summer! Camp Teachers will engage with campers daily with engaging activities on topics including, but are not limited to: agriculture, animal science, natural and physical science, art, cooking, gardening, and team building. Teaching is through hands-on activities in the outdoors that encourage exploration, self-directed learning, and stewardship of the farm and natural environment. Camp Teachers are also asked to act as a mentor-teacher to our Camp Counselors and Leaders-in-Training (LIT) alongside the Camp Manager.
Farm and Forest Camp Teacher employment involves working Monday-Friday from 8-2pm for a minimum of one week.

Responsibilities:
Participate in planning, designing and preparing engaging and fun camp experiences based on themes for the week with the Camp Manager.
Lead camp activities independently or in collaboration with a Camp Counselor, ensuring age-appropriate instruction and supervision for youth ages 5-8 or 9-12.
Lead campers in team-building activities, games, songs, and activities connected to the camp themes.
Facilitate a group of campers utilizing inclusive, proactive, and positive behavioral management methods.
Supervise campers’ safety and preparedness for the day.
Help build a sense of community among campers, staff and encourage positive self-esteem of campers.
Employ hand-on teaching methods to stimulate learning.
Be a role model for campers by being properly prepared for the day’s weather, including wearing the appropriate gear, having a positive outlook, and not using a cell phone during camp hours or in front of campers.
Evaluate and adapt activities as needed, tailoring experiences to camper engagement, group dynamics, and individual needs while supporting a flexible and dynamic camp environment.
Effective & Timely Communication:
Arrive on-time for all scheduled days.
Communicate any emergency time off in a timely manner with the Camp Manager.
Participate in Morning Staff meetings at the beginning of each day.
Communicate camper health and behavior concerns with the Camp Manager.
Document accidents and incidents in a timely and appropriate manner.
Use the Farm’s 2-way radios to communicate with other staff members during the day.
Work Environment:
Activities take place throughout our 35-acre property with over 2-miles of trails through woods and fields.
Trail and other program areas may be rocky, wet, muddy, buggy, or sloped. Unless safety is a severe concern (such as thunderstorms), we live by the saying, “There’s no bad weather, only bad gear.”
Work with domesticated animals such as chickens, goats, sheep, ducks, rabbits and within the gardens.
Staff will also encounter wild animals which may include insects, snakes, frogs, spiders, salamanders, and native mammals.
Dress in accordance with dress code requirements and appropriate for a youth education environment. A camp staff t-shirt will be provided for staff to wear everyday.
Staff will receive one-on-one feedback throughout the summer from the Camp Manager.
Staff are encouraged to provide feedback as a means of enhancing the future camp program experience.
Farm and Forest Camp is an opportunity for campers and staff to strengthen their connection with our natural environment. While staff should have their cellphones accessible for emergencies, cell phones should be out of sight when campers and their families are present. The main office is available for staff to use for computer, cell phone, and other internet needs.
Qualifications:
21-years-old minimum.
Previous camp or teaching experience ideal.
Seeking a degree in Education or other related field
An interest in working with children outdoors. Ability to maintain safety and manage a group of campers in a fun and positive way. Must be willing to follow all Farm’s health and safety rules.
Ability to model responsible behavior to campers while sharing a sincere interest in the agricultural, natural and environmental sciences, outdoor skills, and education.
Ability to function comfortably outdoors in a variety of weather conditions (cold, hot, rain, etc.).
Creative individual with ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Candidates should enjoy working in a busy camp community, be flexible and highly dependable.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills. Comfort with public speaking, constantly interacting with campers, their families, volunteers, and other staff.
First aid and CPR training required prior to the start of camp. Training will be provided at the Farm in June.
Ability to move program equipment and supplies up to 5 lbs. and navigate nature trails under any weather conditions.
Must pass a national criminal and sex offender background check, and NH DCYF background check according to NH DHHS licensing rules and Joppa Hill Educational Farm’s policies.
