Our mission is to preserve a working farm that provides enriching educational experiences, fosters community connection, and cultivates a shared appreciation for New Hampshire’s agricultural heritage and natural environment.
The Educational Farm at Joppa Hill is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that operates a working farm on 35 acres of public land leased from the Town of Bedford, N.H.
Open to the public every day, the farm offers a variety of programs and services designed to pass our region's vanishing agricultural heritage to new generations.
We offer garden plots, school field trips, summer camps, agricultural fairs, and other educational resources. We also serve as a trailhead for hikers, horseback riders, runners, and others who want to explore the woods between Bedford and Amherst. And we do birthday parties, too!
Stop by the farm to meet our animals, explore our trails, visit our pond, have a picnic, or just enjoy the agricultural atmosphere.
At Joppa Hill Educational Farm, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and accessible outdoor environment where all community members, regardless of background, identity, or ability, can engage with nature and agriculture. As a nonprofit educational farm that is free and open to the public every day, from dawn to dusk, we ensure that anyone, regardless of income level, has the opportunity to experience the farm and its educational offerings. We believe that access to nature and agriculture should not be limited by financial barriers.
In addition, we are proud to offer scholarships and financial assistance for our summer camps, ensuring that all youth have the opportunity to experience hands-on learning in agriculture, regardless of their family's financial situation. This is just one of the ways we strive to make our programs accessible to individuals and communities who have historically been underrepresented in agricultural education.
We are committed to ensuring that our programs and spaces are accessible to all. This includes providing wheelchair-accessible paths to animal enclosures and other farm areas to ensure equitable participation for people with mobility challenges. While some areas, such as the hillside where our horses are located, present challenges for full accessibility, we strive to continually improve our infrastructure and are dedicated to making as much of the farm as possible accessible for all.
Our nondiscrimination policy upholds equal access to our programs, resources, and activities, ensuring that every individual, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, religion, or socioeconomic status, is welcomed and valued. Joppa Hill Educational Farm strives to create a place where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive in an environment that champions diversity and inclusion.
Our farm is carry in/carry out. Please take everything, including trash, you bring with you to help keep our farm clean.
The Educational Farm at Joppa Hill, Inc was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2004. The land is owned by the Town of Bedford and leased to the farm. We signed a 30-year lease with the town in 2015, with the option to renew through 2065! The approximately 35-acre farm was formerly a working dairy farm and is now home to horses, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, bunnies, pigs, a donkey, and cows.
The farm has offered summer camps for kids since 2005 and has expanded its services to provide community garden plots, a farm stand, and educational programming. The farm is overseen by an executive director, operations manager, and board of directors, with the work done by more than 100-volunteers who help with animal care, garden work, and structural repair. The farm property is held under conservation easements and connects to an extensive trail system overseen by the Piscataquog Land Conservancy.
2022 was full of growth and progress at the farm. See it all here and join us in making 2023 even better!
