Water Policy

2025 The Collaborative Swimming Protocols: 

Staff Protocols: 

• One lifeguard is present and actively engaged watching children while they are in the water.

• No one is allowed near the water until the lifeguard is in place. 

• One counselor is based where the kids are located. (For example, one is with children playing in the sand, one is on the playground, and one is in the water)

• A list of all the children who have passed the swim test is kept each day and one is provided to the lifeguard on duty. 

Water Policy: 

• If there is no buoy, any child who has not passed the swim test cannot go further than their chest. 

• Any camper can take the swim test, once the swim test is passed they are good for the rest of the summer. 

• If someone fails the swim test, they are allowed to try twice a day until they pass.

Swim Test:

• Each area of swimming has its unique swim test.

• Weston Rec: Swim to one dock and halfway back without stopping.

• Memorial Pond: Swim to and from each dock without stopping

• When going to a new area, the swim test is determined by the lifeguard on duty. If there is no way to perform a swim test, no child can go in water deeper than their chest.

Weather Protocols:

• If thunder is heard, all children are removed from the water. If it seems like the storm will pass children will remain under shelter until the lifeguard determines the water is safe. If a storm is approaching, staff will quickly and safely get the campers back to the school.

Emergency Situations: 

• Daily drills are performed so campers are aware of what to do if an emergency happens.

• If an emergency takes place, the lifeguard will alert and get everyone out of the water.
