The alternative local assessment selected is the CAASPP Interim assessment. If families opt out of the state CAASPP, they must participate in the alternative assessment, which will be held in person at specific dates/times. 

This new update is for all students who are enrolled in a testing grade (CAST for grades 5,8, and 11; CAASPP for grades 3-8 and 11). They will continue to be provided with the necessary accommodations according to their 504 or IEP. The CAA is also encompassed under CAASPP. 

The STAR 360 is a great internal benchmark but we need a variety of assessment data, so using just the STAR 360 wouldn't provide us with enough data. The alternative assessment should also meet the same level of rigor as the CAASPP. The STAR 360 does not meet the same level of rigor. The school may consider other options in the future, but for now, the interim assessment is the selected alternative. 

No, participation in the alternate assessment still negatively impacts the school's participation with the state. Blue Ridge strongly encourages our families to participate in the CAASPP assessment to avoid state penalties. Participation in the alternate assessment will keep a student in compliance with school policy. 

Failure to participate in either the Fall or Spring STAR 360 benchmark assessment will trigger non-compliance. (grades TK-11)

Failure to complete either the CAASPP testing or alternative assessment will impact a student's ability to re-enroll for the following school year. (CAST for grades 5, 8, and 11; CAASPP for grades 3-8 and 11).
