Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC)
What is it?
The Smarter Balanced (ELA and Math tests) are for all students in grades 3rd-8th and 11th. The SBAC is also known as the California Assessment of Student Performance Progress (CAASPP). View the Assessment Fact Sheet for more information.
California Science Test (CAST)
What is it?
CAST (California Science Test) is for students in grades 5, 8, and their last year of High School Science (typically 11th grade)
What is it?
Provides guidance on where to focus student efforts for academic growth
Fosters individualized learning
Provides a means for parents to track their child's academic progress
Improve and enhance student learning outcomes
Identify opportunities for growth and recognize specific skill gaps
Ensures that students are being evaluated on the content and skills deemed essential to grade-level standards
Maintains consistency in educational expectations
Drives student achievement and promotes knowledge and critical thinking skills
Provides support and resources to students and families to ensure success toward their goals academically, emotionally, and socially
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is a federal requirement for students to take an annual assessment in grades 3rd-8th, and 11th. California schools are penalized with a LOSS penalty if we do not meet 95% participation.
Assessment results are valuable for data-driven decision-making in adjustments to the curriculum and instructional methods
Verified data must be submitted during the charter renewal process
Serves as documentation to support claims made by the school regarding its performance and adherence to the charter
AB 1505 - Verified Data must be provided during the Charter Renewal process. To be eligible for inclusion as verified data, a data source must include the results of at least 95 percent of eligible students.
California School Dashboard - Indicates school health and performance. Based on overall student test scores, the school receives a red, orange, yellow, green, or blue rating for test performance. The Lowest Obtainable Scaled Score, known as the LOSS Penalty, is applied here and will bring down our school’s overall performance.
