In April, students got to attend a live performance of Romeo and Juliet.
After we attended the play at the Center for Performing Arts, students were asked to complete one of the following responses.
Choose one of the following and complete. (Min 500 words or 3 paragraphs)
Write a short review (like a theater critic) of the live performance. Focus on one or two elements—acting, costumes, music, emotional impact, etc.—and describe how they enhanced or changed your understanding of the story. (Link here to how to write a Theater Review)
Write a letter to Shakespeare from the perspective of a modern teenager who just saw Romeo and Juliet. What did you love? What confused you? What advice would you give him if he were writing for today's audience? Include emojis or slang to “translate” Shakespearean language into a teen voice. Example Here
Record yourself performing a short excerpt from Romeo and Juliet, (listed below on the last page). Then give a brief reflection: What does the language feel like when spoken aloud? What emotions or meaning came through as you said it? You can use audio or video. Link to How to read Shakespeare Dialogue and Why read Shakepeare Aloud?
