Slam Poems - Middle School

In April, for National Poetry Month we read, watched, and listened to slam poems of a wide variety.

We then choose a theme of self, others, place or society and wrote our own poems.

Slam poetry is performance-based art where the artist gives voice to the poem in a manner that brings words to life, with animated emotions, and equally emotional enunciation.

Poets usually perform spoken word poetry before a live audience. Each poem in a slam has a story, a take, an opinion. each poem is a story.

The performer's connection to the story told in the poem is what makes the slam poem so intense and emotional.

Slams are extremely inclusive events where everyone is invited to participate.

We had our own slam event on April 28th.
