The Cloud
By Quinn Bui
1st Place, Lewis
Once upon a time there was a cloud. The cloud wanted to go on an adventure. The cloud set off in the sky and it flew over the forest and over the mountains. He then met another cloud, and the two clouds became friends. They played in the sky and lived happily ever after.

Dragon Clouds
By Alexis Vrankovic
1st Place, Liddell
There were clouds in the sky. They made a dragon with all the other clouds. They made a big tree and then it was night-time. Thunder came out of the black clouds. People were scared and ran into their houses.

My mum had a dog called Benjie. He was a white and fluffy dog that looked like a cloud. That’s why they nearly named him Cloud. Benjie lived with my Nene and Dede (grandparents) when I was born, and I liked taking him for walks with my brother. Nene would pick me up from childcare with Benjie and all the kids used to run to the gate to pat him. I liked that I used to be the one who hold his leash. I liked to play with him. He licked me on the cheek and that meant that he liked to kiss me.
Benjie got a bit sick and could not move much and lay on the floor. I could not take him for walks with a leash anymore and Nene would get me from childcare without Benjie. One day he died. I remember it was just before Easter. I felt sad.
Sometimes, my brother Davey and me play cloud shapes in the car when we go to the city. Cloud shapes is a game where we look up in the clouds to see pictures. One time my brother found the shape of Benjie. I was so happy. Davey and me always look for him in the clouds and sometimes we find him. When we see a cloud that looks like him, we know he misses me, and I miss him.
I love Benjie.

What a wonderful day!

It was my mum's birthday, so we decided to go to the blue mountains to celebrate her.
It was a long trip; I was sitting at the back of the car, next to my sister, near the window.
Looking outside the window, I saw tall trees and autumn leaves falling, old houses, birds flying in the sky and a big elephant shaped cloud chased by a small dog looking cloud.
We arrived at the hotel that we were staying at for the weekend. It was late so we did not go anywhere the first night, we had a movie night as a family. We had popcorn and lollies while watching TV. The next morning, we went out to a café near where we are staying to eat breakfast, I had the tastiest chocolate croissant and a hash brown. After breakfast we went to see the Three Sisters, but we could not see anything because there was lots of fog. So, my parents decided to go to the Scenic World first and then come back to the Three Sisters when the fog was gone.
At Scenic World, we went on the Skyway where I saw a waterfall, lots of trees and clouds touching the mountains. We went on another sky cable, it felt like I was floating in the air and standing on clouds and we were going backwards. It felt so cool. Then we went on the steepest train in the world, but to me, it was the scariest train in the world. My baby brother and I were very scared. We almost cried while my older sister and my older brother were having so much fun to the point my sister almost fell off her seat, which was very funny. I could not wait to get off the train and go back to the Three Sisters which happened soon after.
The view was very nice because there was no fog this time. I saw the Three Sisters which are three big rocks and there is another smaller rock next to them is called the Stepsister. We walked down trying to get closer to the Three Sisters. There were lots of trees, and we saw a baby snake sleeping on the side of the walkway. We took lots of photos. I got a spoon with a picture of the Three Sisters as a souvenir to remind me of my trip to the Blue Mountains. Because it was my mum's birthday, we got her a cake, and we sang happy birthday to her.
It was a wonderful day.

Looking at the Clouds

On a sunny afternoon, I asked my mum, “Do you have any Play-Doh or paints?” Mum said, “We don’t have any, but it is a beautiful day so why don’t we go play in the backyard and watch the clouds.” I thought that was a great idea.
We lay down on the grass and watched the clouds to see if they looked like something. There were small clouds, big clouds, white clouds, grey clouds and so many different shapes of clouds. But there was one cloud which really amazed me, and it looked like a beautiful flower, like the flowers in our front garden.
I went back inside the house, took out all my pencils and crayons and tried to draw the flower. It was very hard, and I could not get it right. I told my mum “I can’t draw the picture of the cloud.” Mum put her arms around me and said, “Keep trying, do not give up and always reach for the clouds.” I tried my hardest and I drew a pretty rainbow flower which I hung on the wall. I was so happy and proud of myself.
I will now always remember to reach for the clouds when things get hard.
