Winter 2027 Case Study — LA28: Designing for Participation
In this creative studio, students will imagine and develop original experience concepts for athletes and their teams, using UCLA's 2028 Olympic Village as a creative design challenge while exploring how themed entertainment and interaction design can transform audiences into active participants. Through hands-on exercises, case studies, and collaborative critique, students will learn experience mapping, concept development, playtesting, iterative design, and how to communicate and evaluate ideas within real-world constraints. The quarter culminates in a published collection of illustrated student design proposals, shared with the broader creative community.
Open to storytellers, designers, performers, makers, producers, directors, and anyone interested in creating experiences people don't just watch, but actively engage with. No prerequisites or technical skills required.
