AUDITION TIME:

August 30–31, afternoon, on the UCLA campus. Exact appointment times and location will be provided to selected actors.

SHOOT DATES:

September 1–2 or September 3–4. Final dates will be confirmed by August 25. Please indicate availability for both date ranges when submitting.

LOCATION:

UCLA campus, Los Angeles, CA. Los Angeles local hire preferred; no travel or lodging provided.

COMPENSATION:

This is an unpaid student production. Actors will receive screen credit, a digital copy of the completed film, and meals during production.

LOGLINE

After her 18-year-old daughter accidentally kills their predatory neighbor while trying to end their relationship, a mother reshapes the scene and prepares to take the blame before the police arrive.

SYNOPSIS

Over one tense night, Diane helps her terrified daughter, Robin, after an accidental death at the home of their predatory neighbor. As the police approach, Diane redirects the evidence toward herself, giving Robin one final chance to escape. Purple is a psychological thriller and family drama centered on maternal love, guilt, and sacrifice.

CONTENT DISCLOSURE

The film includes references to an accidental death, an implied relationship between an 18-year-old and a married man in his 40s, emotional distress, and a small amount of simulated blood. One performer portrays a deceased person and may be safely repositioned during rehearsed physical staging. No sexual activity or on-screen violence is depicted. All physical staging will be discussed and rehearsed with performer consent.

ROLES

DIANE WINTERS — Lead — Woman, 40s-50s — Any ethnicity

Diane and Robin will be cast to plausibly share the same familial and ethnic background. Grounded, empathetic, and outwardly composed, Diane is a mother who remains focused under extreme pressure. Every decision she makes is driven by the need to protect her daughter, even as she conceals the personal cost of that decision. Seeking an actor with strong screen presence, emotional restraint, warmth, and the ability to move naturally from practical control to tenderness and sacrifice. Strong chemistry with Robin is essential.

ROBIN — Supporting / Featured — Woman, 18+ to play 18 — Any ethnicity

Robin and Diane will be cast to plausibly share the same familial and ethnic background. Diane’s daughter. Robin has a slightly edgy personal style— purple lipstick is an important story detail—but remains emotionally young, vulnerable, and innocent beneath the surface. After accidentally causing a death, she is terrified with shock and guilty, and ultimately must share a painful goodbye with her mother. Seeking an actor with subtle emotional range and strong, natural chemistry with Diane. Performer must be 18 or older.

DOM — Featured Non-Speaking — Man, 40s-50s — Any ethnicity

A polished, well-dressed, and married neighbor whose accidental death after his predatory relationship with a girl around the same age as his daughter sets the story in motion. This non-speaking role requires the performer to portray a deceased person, remain still for sustained takes, and participate in safe, rehearsed physical repositioning. A small amount of simulated blood or makeup may be used. No dialogue.
