Each trimester, students are expected to participate in a personalized independent study portion throughout the trimester. Each trimester’s independent study will be graded out of 25 points.
Trimester 1: Students will be placed on an independent skills plan using IXL Recommendations. They will be expected to complete at least one skill a week. Student recommendations will be based on their diagnostic at the beginning of the trimester. Please see the handout for more information on the IXL Program.
Trimester 2: Students will shift into independent reading study. This will require students to have an age-appropriate independent reading book with them each day. Each student is responsible for fully reading that novel by the end of the trimester, and completing skill worksheets throughout.
Trimester 3: Students will be participating in a book club in which they are responsible for fully reading that novel by the end of the trimester, and completing skill worksheets throughout. On Fridays, students will gather in a group to discuss their novels.
