SSB Rules and Policies
Code of Conduct
All Summer Springboard Students are required to agree and abide by the Code of Conduct. Violation of the Code of Conduct can result in expulsion from the program.
Student Boundaries
For students’ own safety, Summer Springboard requires students to stay within a prescribed boundary
For an interactive look at the boundary map, click here.
Between the hours of 7:00am and 9:30pm, students are allowed outside the residence hall, but they must stay within the boundaries.
Between the hours of 9:30pm and 7:00am, students must be in their assigned residence hall and inside their rooms after lights-out time.
Students may not hang out on the New Haven Green as this is outside of program boundaries.
If students are found outside of the boundaries, these privileges may be revoked for the entire student body.
Repeat offenders will face disciplinary action and may be dismissed from the program.
While on excursions, boundaries will also be communicated, and students may not leave the specified areas.
Groups of Three
Whether on an excursion or off-campus (but within the dormitory and classroom boundaries), students should never travel alone. Students should always travel in groups of three or more.
Socializing
We encourage students to spend time together during the program, however the following boundaries must be maintained:
Commuter students may not enter dorm rooms. Students may socialize in the courtyard of the residential college, in the Buttery, or in other common areas where program activities are occurring.
During optional evening events, residential students may socialize in a dorm suite of their gender, in the courtyard, or in the other common areas designated for Summer Springboard use.
To ensure the safety of all participants, male students are not permitted in the rooms or on the floors of female students and vice versa. Any student found violating this rule may be sent home at his or her expense.
Only Summer Springboard students and staff, and Yale University staff, are permitted in Summer Springboard dorm areas.
Residential Students Only
Living in the Dormitory
The following policies apply to residential students:
Students cannot switch rooms and must spend the night in their own rooms.
The Headmasters (and their families) of each residential college live on the grounds of the residential college, therefore we ask that students be inside the building by 9:30pm and keep loud noises to a minimum.
Please keep basement lounges (e.g. The Buttery) clean and do not leave supplies, food, or trash in the lounge.
After RA/Mentor check, please keep the noise down and be conscientious of students who may be sleeping.
Yale’s residential college is air-chilled. Students will also be provided with a fan for their room.
Students are responsible for any costs incurred due to room damage/lost keys.
Please be respectful of other programs’ students and staff. Summer Springboard shares space with other programs and this is part of the communal dorm living experience!
Curfews
9:30PM - All students must be on-campus and inside the dormitory building area. Students should not be outside, unless attending a scheduled activity, until the following morning.
10:30PM - All students must be in their room for nightly room checks. Once these checks are completed by staff, students don’t necessarily have to go to bed, but must remain in their rooms/suites for the duration of the night. They may only leave in the event of an emergency or to visit the staff member on duty.
Bedroom Checks
Students must be in their room each night at the time designated for Mentor Check. This starts at 10:30 pm.
Students must be awake and present so they can be seen by their Mentor.
Commuter Students Only
Summer Springboard staff will not allow commuter students to check-out on their own unless given authorization to do so in the student/family dashboard. Students who are not given permission to check-out on their own will need a parent or authorized individual present with proof of identification in order for them to check-out.
Summer Springboard does not pay or give parking permits for commuter students who will need to park their car for the day.
