add Awards (Badges) for students to earn during the semester

One way to increase student success!

Awards or Badges provide a way to increase your students motivation to complete assigned tasks by giving them a "kudo". You decide what to put in the message for your award. You also have the option to choose how they earn the award and what reward they can earn from these awards - extra credit or just a nice message encouraging them.

I found that my students completed their homework on time more often when provided with an award. I did not give an award for every assignment, the awards were scattered throughtout the course. I also did not tell them if an assignment had an award. Below are two links, one is a quick explanation on awards (badges) and the other contains the directions for creating and managing awards. I have put links to three videos below created by Brightspace to help you create and manage your awards. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The student will see the award in their notifications in D2L. The speech bubble in the image of the D2L banner below is where they will receive notice of their award.

Icons I used for my awards. There is a library of images or you can add your own.
