April 15th - This week we will be discussing Yom Haatzmaut, Israel's Independence Day with B'Yachad. Together, we will be reading a story and making Israeli wind socks that we will be parading around with. In addition, the Alef Bet class has filled up their warm and fuzzy jar again so we will be celebrating by wearing our pajamas and having an icecream party. To further review and practice our Alef Bet, we will be playing Bingo and Alef Bet Twister. We will also be singing our Hebrew songs and prayers and learning our colors by playing "I Spy" and creating a color booklet.
March 18th - The Alef Bet class had a blast learning about Passover with B'yachad this week! Together we listened to a story about Passover and created a seder plate project. In addition, we finished making our Passover boxes. Our Passover boxes have a project or something to represent each of the ten plagues that can be used to make your family Passover seder fun and interactive! We also continued to work on our Hebrew letters by playing Alef Bet matching and making the Alef Bet out of slime.
February 4th - Happy February! We are having a lot of fun at Hebrew School. This week the Alef Bet class will be focusing on the letters vuv and zayin. We will be playing tic-tac-toe and Alef Bet bingo. Please continue to encourage your children to practice their Alef Bet at home! In addition, we will be talking about mitzvot and making our own mitzvah trees to reflect all the good deeds we do. We will also be learning how to say some of our colors in Hebrew.
January 28th - This week the Alef Bet class learned about Tu B'Shvat. We read a story about the holiday and made tree pictures out of our handprints. In addition, we learned about the Hebrew letter yud. As always, we are continuing to practice our Hebrew letters through club time. Students also practiced writing their Hebrew names.
December 3rd - This week the Alef Bet class began learning about Hanukkah. We read two stories about the holiday and are working on creating a Hanukkah parody to the tune of "I'm Still Standing." We also made an edible menorah out of graham crackers, icing and twizzlers. In addition, we focused on the letters kaf and chaf. We also played an alef bet matching game to review our Hebrew letters. As always, we are continuing to do mitzvot during Hebrew School on Sundays and have filled up our warm and fuzzy jar again!
December 10th - This week the Alef Bet class will be joining B'Yachad for some very special Hanukkah activities. We are going to be making a fun menorah craft. We will also be making (and eating!) edible dreidels. We will be finishing our Hanukkah parody to perform next week when we make latkes! This week we will be focusing on dreidels and discussing the meanings of the nun, gimmel, hey, and shin (or po) that we see on the dreidel. We will also be playing the dreidel game in class. In addition, this week will be our Pajama Ice Cream Party since we filled up our warm an fuzzy jar last week!!
November 5th - This week the Alef Bet class learned about Israel. We read a story and created an Israeli craft. In addition, we learned the Hebrew letter samech and practiced by playing tic-tac-toe, Alef Bet matching and making letters out of shaving cream. We also learned some of our Hebrew colors. To practice our Hebrew colors, we played a fun game of "I Spy" in our classroom. The students have been continuing to demonstrate their ability to do mitzvot by doing good deeds and being able to add warm and fuzzies to our jar.
October 15th - I am so excited to announce that the Alef Bet class has filled up their warm and fuzzy jar by doing mitzvot. To celebrate, we will be having a pajama ice cream party next week. Students are welcome to bring one stuffed animal with them to Hebrew school as well. In addition, to doing mitzvot (good deeds), the Alef Bet class learned about the holiday of Simchat Torah. We danced around with the torahs and made edible torahs in class to celebrate. This week our Hebrew letter was lamed. We practiced our new letter by playing tic-tac-toe, making letters out of our bodies on the floors and creating the letters out of play doh!
October 22nd - This week, the Alef Bet class celebrated filling up their warm and fuzzy jars by wearing their pajamas and eating ice cream. We also learned the Hebrew letter vet. Students enjoyed practicing their previously learned Hebrew letters by making them out of shaving cream and participating in Club Time.
October 29th - The Alef Bet class enjoyed learning about the holiday of Shabbat this week. Together, we practiced the blessing over wine/juice. In addition, we made a kiddish cup magnet that can be hung on the refrigerator with the prayer. We also had a class discussion about our Hebrew names. Each student drew a picture of themselves and labeled it with their Hebrew name. In the picture, they drew themselves doing their favorite activities at Hebrew school. These pictures are displayed on our bulletin board if you would like to check them out next time you are at the temple!
September 17th - I am so excited for the beginning of our school year! On the first day of Hebrew School, we will be getting to know each other and sharing our favorite parts of being Jewish. We will learn the Alef Bet song and focus on the letter bet. In addition, we will be studying the holiday of Rosh Hashanah by reading a story, creating an art project and going on a mock tashlich walk!
September 24th - This week the Alef Bet class will be discussing the holiday of Yom Kippur and reviewing Rosh Hashanah. As a class, we will be creating a list of goals for 5778. We will continue to learn new songs and prayers, including the Alef Bet song, the Shema and Don't Walk in Front of Me. Our new Hebrew letters for the week will be shin and resh. We will also be making slime to use to make the Hebrew letters.
