Views from the rock
Sense of Place
We all have a place that we connect to. It might be a unique tree or view. My place is a rock in the Aldisoro woods on the side of a trail with beautiful views surrounding it. Going there, I do not need to think about anything except the present. The rock is one of my favorite places to have a sense of peace.
This rock has been in my family as long as I have. When I was younger, my family and I would hike to the rock almost daily. Then we would sit on the rock and eat lunch or just talk. Slowly but surely, we would continue on to the forest and, finally, the river. I have so many memories from this hike in my neighborhood. But I am not the only person who has had a great experience on the windy trail.
In 1878, a man named Fred Hartsonberg was exploring through the woods where this trail would be in the 2000s when he stopped at a lookout point. He had never seen something so beautiful in his life. He thought, “Everybody needs to see this, so he wrote the coordinates and the story behind them in his journal. The coordinates were 37° 57'50"N 107° 52'46 W. Later on, a woman named Loreta Hillsberry found his journal. She decided she would make a trial and make his wishes come true. Loreta worked endlessly until the trial was finished.
In conclusion, Fred Hartsonberg was just an explorer seeking to find the beauty in the world. He felt peace when he came to the rock and sat on it. That was his spot. It does not matter if your place is not unique it just depends on who is sitting there and what it means to you. You can find peace anywhere in the world, and that’s when you feel belonging.
