Tires, Wheels &
Air Pressure

Non Full-Size SPARE TIRE:

Rim Size: 20x6 - Tire Size: 195/70R20 (7.7"/5.4") = 30.8" Tire. Load capacity of 2,760 lbs. (greater than the stock installed Goodyear tires) Radial Tire, Pirelli. This tire is not considered full size based on it's width however it is the exact same height. It carries a greater load capacity than the Goodyear Eagles installed on the vehicle and therefore IS sufficient as a spare for towing. There is NO need to option the full-size spare tire! I'm sure this tire weighs a bit less and that is why LR choose it rather than a full size as the default even with the tow package.

I recently discovered that this is a non-standard tire size and replacements are really not available. After some research here are some alternate sizes:

  • Get a full size spare

Sizes I'm considering upgrading to:

55 Series Profile Off-Road Tires

275/55R20 = 10.8"wide / 6" Tall / 2-" Rim = 31.9" Tire < fits perfect and looks awesome!

305/55/20 = 12" wide / 6.6" Tall / 20" Rim = 33" Tire < didn't fit, to big

See Picture Below.

The tires I choose:

I paid $247 ea. tire at America's Tire < They're basically the same price at Tirerack.com

I opted for the replacement warranty for $34.75 ea. tire (I verified this is good for on or off road damage, any tire issues gets a new tire)

Lifetime rotation and balancing $16 ea. tire

Total was $1299.66 which included tax and enviro. fees.

COMPARISON:

Warranty:

  • BFG / 6 Years

  • Goodyear Eagles / 6 Years

Max Load:

  • BFG / 2680 lbs (D rating, uses light truck tire scale)

  • Goodyear Eagles / 2337 lbs (XL rating, uses passenger car tire scale)

Max PSI:

  • BFG / 65 psi

  • Goodyear Eagle / 50 psi

Tread Depth:

  • BFG / 15/32

  • Goodyear Eagle / 10/32

Weight:

  • BFG / 36 lbs

  • Goodyear Eagle / 36 lbs

Speed Rating:

  • BFG / S (112 mph)

  • Goodyear Eagle / Y (186 mph)

Treadwear Scale:

  • BFG / Not Rated (expecting about 50,000 miles with proper rotation)

  • Goodyear Eagle F1 / 240 (my new Goodyear 80,000 mile tires (on my other car) have a treadwear rating of 600, so if we do the math a treadwear rating of 240 would be a 32,000 mile tire)

Other tires I considered:

Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac Tires

Tires My Disco Came With:

(Interesting enough the smallest 20" rim size technically comes with the largest overall tire size by height but it is the thinnest of all the stock tire/wheel choices)

GOODYEAR EAGLE F1 ASYMMETRIC AT SUV-4X4 - SIZE: 255/55R20

255/55/20 = 10.04" wide / 5.52 " Tall / 20" Rim = 31.04 mm or 31" Tire

Max Load: 2337 lbs.

Here are the tire sizes, if you opted for the 19" 21" or 22" Wheels:

275/45/21 = 10.83" wide / 4.87" Tall / 21" Rim = 30.74 mm or 31" Tire

285/40/22 = 11.22" wide / 4.49" Tall / 22" Rim = 30.98 mm or 31" Tire

OFF ROAD AIR PRESURE:

Air down to your rim diameter. If you’ve got 20-inch rims, go to 20 psi. Anything below that raises the chance of rolling the bead off the rim exponentially. Consider your emergency air pressure half of that pressure (a 20-inch wheel would have a 10 psi emergency pressure).
