Engine Oil

LOW FRICTION TECHNOLOGIES The engine range uses advanced coating technologies on pistons, needle roller bearings and other mechanical parts. This helps to reduce friction, especially at low engine temperatures, so the vehicle performs at peak efficiency.

Why do I use a different Oil:

Background:

Our vehicles were designed and built in Europe including the TD6 Lion Engine.

Europe Uses Oil Specifications are abreviated as ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (or Association des Constructeurs Européens d'Automobiles in French, hence the ACEA abbreviation)

The Oil classification of the Land Rover Recomended Oil falls into the C1 classification. C1 meets low Ash requirements of .5% or less and HTHS (High Temperature High Shear) minimum of 2.9.

In Europe a new classification C4 exists which maintains the low Ash levels under .5% but increases the HTHS to a minimum of 3.5. This offers better engine wear protection. This oil does not exist in America and there is no standard for it yet. Therefore it has to be purchased in Europe and shipped over therefore you will pay a premium. All other versions of this engine including the Ford Powerstrock version use the higher ash and higher HTHS version of oil but because our version of the engine require was built to meet Europeen standards it had to compromise HTHS for lower ash levels.

I hosenstly don't know how much difference .6 HTHS in oil will make in the longevity of the engine. It may be huge, it may be insignificant.
