Maths Tasks:
There are lots of different things you can do to support your child's mathematics learning, because MATHS is every where. Clocks, numbers, time, measuring, speed, is all maths! So have fun with it.
Make your own Bingo Game to play with your whānau. Use numbers from 0 - 10, or experts might like to try teen numbers too.
Find different shaped things at home that you can trace around and use the shapes to draw an interesting picture. Can you find something that is a circle, square and rectangle shape to help draw your picture? How many sides does each shape have?
Keep score of the games you play like “I Spy” or card games by using Tally Points. Ask your whānau how to record the points and keep track each day to see who has the most!
Have a running race up the driveway to see who is the fastest in your family.
Play memory or snap with your family
Find 5 things in your house that have 4 sides
Look at the clock...what number is the big hand pointing to? What number comes before it? What number comes after it?
Make some play dough (if you can)
Collect 11 stones and write the numbers 0-10 on them. Put them in order (keep them safe and do this over and over as a game)
Go for a walk down the street with an adult (BUT adhere to the Covid-19 rules) and look at the numbers on the letter boxes. Can you find all numbers from 0-10?
Draw a picture with 3 triangles, 2 circles, 1, and 1 other shape. Colour it in and count the shapes.

Design a new necklace for Mum or Nana by making a pattern. What other patterns can you see around the house
Find 4 things in your house longer than your leg!
Extra Activities...
Guess my Number - 1 player thinks of a number (between 0-10) and keeps it a secret. The other players have to ask yes/no questions to give them clues as to what the number is. They keep asking questions until they guess the number. Good questions to ask might be; Is it bigger than 5? Is it a multiple of 2?
Number Bingo - Each player writes 6 numbers on their paper between 1-10. The Bingo caller calls out a number, and players cross it out if they have it. First player to cross out all their numbers wins. Extension: You can makes this harder by calling out sums for players to work out e.g. "3+2". If the players can work out the answer and have that number on their board they can cross it out. If confident with numbers 1-10, play with numbers to 20...100.
Counting Walk - Go for a walk and pick one thing to count as you walk. You might choose to count...cars...birds...people...dogs. Extension - To make this harder you could count in twos, fives or tens for every car...bird...dog you see.
Guess my shape - 1 player thinks of a shape. The other players ask yes/no questions until they can guess the shape correctly. Good questions to ask might be; Does it have 4 sides? Does it have 3 corners?
Cooking & Baking - Count the amounts of each ingredient. Count the number of items being made. Count the cutlery when you are setting the table.
