Prepare to make Phoenix home.
What is the AEPA?
Arizona Educator Proficiency Examinations (AEPA) are a series of tests for individuals who wish to earn teaching certification in Arizona. Prospective teachers sit for different examinations depending upon what level and subject they wish to teach. All tests are computer-based (NES) and are available at Pearson test centers throughout Arizona and the rest of the United States.
What is the NES exam?
In order to become a fully certified teacher in Arizona, you are required to pass a content-area exam. Arizona currently uses the National Evaluation Series (NES) to assess educators. NES exams are offered several times a month at more than 300 test centers around the country. You should be able to find a test date and center that is convenient for you.
How many exams do I need to take?
Most 2022 corps members will be required to take one exam; however, some incoming Phoenix corps members may be asked to take and pass a second content-area exam (for example, some English teachers may be asked to complete an elementary education exam). This is done to increase options for the placement process and meet the specific demands in our partner schools. We also want to ensure that you have a back-up plan, in case you struggle with your first exam.
Whether Phoenix is already home or you are moving across country, we have complied some resources to help with the transition. You may be wondering if you should relocate to be closer to your school placement? Or maybe you want to be close to great hiking and mountain bike trails! Whatever you are looking for, we are sure you will fall in love with Phoenix.
