Yes. Unless you will possess a valid teaching certificate by June 2022, TFA Phoenix corps members must enroll in a Arizona State University certification program. This program allows corps members the opportunity to work earn a Masters degree by the end of their two year commitment for the significantly discounted total cost of $12,000.
Unless you will posses a valid teaching certificate by June 2022, you will apply for the Arizona Alternative Teaching Certificate. There are 5 requirements needed to apply for this certificate*:
A passing score on your appropriate NES content exam
IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Official degree-conferred transcripts from an undergraduate institution
Letter of enrollment from ASU's Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College (will be provided)
Structured English Endorsement certificate (if you will be teaching in an ELL or ESL classroom)
While you do not need to be in possession of your IVP Finger Print Clearance Card in order to interview for and accept a teaching position, you must have your IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card before the first day of school in order to be alone in your classroom with your students. We strongly recommend applying for your IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card as soon as possible.
The average application processing time can vary from week to week based on the total volume of applications received and whether or not an applicant has a criminal record requiring research. If research is not required, processing will take approximately two to four weeks for an electronic application and four to six weeks for a paper application. Processing can take up to 90 days for applications which require research.
The 2021 fee for a paper application was $67 and an electronic application was $73. The electronic application adds an additional convenience fee of $7.95, which includes fingerprinting at an approved vendor location. The paper application may require payment of an additional fee for fingerprinting services, dependent on which service the applicant chooses to perform the fingerprinting. Fees are subject to change at any time.
You may check the status of your electronic or paper application online at the link below. You will need your application number: Clearance Card Application Status Check.

Teach For America does not provide health care services or health insurance during summer training.. Corps members are responsible for obtaining health insurance coverage during the summer (before your placement school or district's coverage kicks in). Note that it is Teach For America's policy that anyone who is ill (or appears to be ill) at institute will be required to visit a nurse or doctor and obtain a note stating they are not contagious prior to resuming teaching students and attending institute programming. You are responsible for all medical costs, including transportation costs that may arise from medical visits.
If you anticipate needing medical treatment during institute, we suggest locating a doctor or medical facility prior to your arrival.
