Below you will find some popular resources to help support your students in reading.


  • Reading Rockets- This site, based on the PBS show, has so many excellent resources for parents to support their readers at home.

  • Storyline Online- This resource features videos of celebrities reading popular books. There are resources included for parents or teachers to use along with the books.

  • Story Place- Animated videos of stories, including activities and sing-alongs. Like a visit to the library without having to leave home.

  • Reading Bear- Great for readers who are just starting out. Includes phonetic concepts and vocabulary words.

  • Oxford Owl- eBooks and games to support reading concepts. Includes tips for teachers and parents.

  • Khan Academy Kids- This app is specifically made for kids who are learning to read. It's great for pre-k through 2nd grade students and has tips for their parents as well.

  • Tumblebooks- A database of over 1100 eBooks for elementary students. FWISD subscribes to this resource and any student or staff member can use the subscription to access the books. Find the login information by viewing this site while logged into your FWISD account.

  • Teach Your Monster to Read- Kids explore print concepts and phonetic elements in a game format.

  • Starfall- This site has resources for many different subject areas. It features folk songs, read alouds, phonics exercises, and activities for students who are learning to read.

  • Scholastic Home Base- Kids can interact with their favorite characters through book-based games.

  • BBC Teach- A library of resources for numerous subjects.

  • Storynory- Free audio stories

  • Reading is Fundamental- a digital library with thousands of resources tied directly to the books

  • Colorin Colorado- Bilingual resources with tips on helping your child learn to read

  • Funbrain- games, books, and activities based on popular characters

  • Spanish Playground- resources for learning to read in Spanish
