Mr. James L. Persley is a native of Ft. Worth, TX. He attended a variety of different schools from Carter Park, David K. Sellars, Forest Oak and O.D. Wyatt just to name a few. Mr. Persley left Ft. Worth the summer of his 10th grade year after experiencing social and educational factors that put him at risk of being a statistic. After moving to central Texas he was exposed to mentoring groups, Teen Leadership classes and Boy's State. This had a significant impact on his social development and understanding of diversity. He joined the military shortly after graduating from high school was able to learn and develop a skill set that placed emphasis on establishing structure, the importance of discipline, maintaining a course of action, staying resilient and last but not least recognizing your scale of flexibility. Mr. Persley would like to pass on this skill set to youth that may be facing similar risk factors that he was exposed to as a youth .
Mr. Persley’s career spans over 20 years of working with at risk youth as a gang interventionist and mentor, criminal justice system as a juvenile detention officer/counselor, an adult probation officer/counselor for two different counties, A licensed chemical dependency counselor, an offender education facilitator for the State of Texas and student support services within two different counties.
Mr. Persley obtained his Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Texas Wesleyan University. During this time he received a long-term assignment as a history teacher with Cedar Hill ISD while independently counseling with Paragon Salient Addiction Services. After earning his Masters of Science in School Counseling from Texas Wesleyan University he began his support services career with FWISD.
