My family doesn’t do Traditions
By Uriyah Grantham
My family traditions haven’t carried through generations. Instead, we are creating new traditions every year. Tradition is about the small daily things that you live with. There are 10 family members in our household; three boys, three girls, my mom and dad along with my grandparents. A big part of our family is food and gaming. The food, games, and family time plays a role in all our activities. Each Saturday morning, we prepare waffles. The food spreads throughout our home. We have been eating waffles for as long as I can remember. It's been a tradition in our own way. On random evenings, each one of my family members is responsible for coming up with a dish. We don’t celebrate holidays, but simply a day with the family and a good meal together. The kitchen is where we bond. Sometimes it’s crazy with little monsters running around, it helps to have music playing in the background, it creates a nice and chill atmosphere.
Gaming is a big part of our week, but that is not why homework is late. As a family. We play games like Madden 2026, College 2026, and Gran Turismo. A lot of the time we play games against each other creating fun competitive rivalries. Another activity we enjoy is going on bike rides together as a family, especially riding road bikes through trails.. We have ridden our bikes in many different areas, from Portland, Eugene, and Salem. The most miles I’ve ever ridden is 35 miles in one round trip. It’s really cool to ride our bikes in Eugene too.
Family traditions are different for everyone. Ours is focused on the small things as long as we are spending time together.
