My Family Tradition
By Lillian Battey
Every year my family and I go to a Christmas tree farm and cut down our own tree. We go up the McKenzie to a family-owned tree farm. My sister and I always fight over which one looks better for like five minutes until we find another one to fight about. Every year she always says she picked the tree out but let's be honest she's lying; I always pick the tree. My dad and I always put up the lights on the tree and my sister, and I put up the ornaments. Most of the time it ends with fighting about where the ornaments should go. While we put up ornaments, we put on Christmas music and dance around. It's my favorite time of year not just because I get presents but because I get to spend more time with my family and we get a break from school. I also love this time of year because I get to ski. Also, my best friend usually comes down from Alaska, and we do a gift exchange. But not this year, sad I know, I haven't seen her in what feels like years (the last time I saw her was during spring break). She usually comes down here for spring break, summer, and winter break but not the year. Her family went up there this year. And I am hoping I can go up there soon.
