Future Memories and Traditions
By Kaleel Grantham
A lot of people celebrate holidays and have traditions that they carry on through generations.. Each tradition could differ from another’s, as a few people in the past month have asked me what my family tradition is. That’s when I really started to wonder, does my family have a tradition? As I started to look back at the past few years to think about my family tradition, I thought deeply about it. One of the traditions we have been doing is where each family member gets to make a dish of their choosing, this tradition teaches us different life skills, especially as most of the cooks are children. It gives us a chance to learn how to cook new recipes. Our dishes have been new and fresh, creating our own holiday menus. We have cooked many different dishes from chicken wings, BBQ chicken drumsticks, homemade mac & cheese, chicken mac & cheese, fruit salad, and a unique baked bean meal. I would go further into recipes, however this is about traditions. As every holiday for the past two years, we have done this tradition. It may not be a lot, but for each person in our family to work together to cook different meals. This is something to remember taking pride in each meal. To me traditions aren’t just the things you do, they are the things you would remember and carry on from generation to generation.
