Finding your own path

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have an influential parent with a famous voice? As many famous individual’s families and friends are usually spotlighted on social networks, fans may not know them or their story.  Others are hidden from the spotlight or just don’t want their name or face on social networks. We interviewed 17-year old Delilah Rene, the daughter of hall of fame radio host Delilah.“Radio with Delilah” is a well known nighttime radio show that has been on air since 1974. The radio show aims and offers support and advice to millions of nightly listeners.

There are millions of celebrities with children that have the backing for a good and successful future for their family. Having the ability to become whatever you possibly want could be possible for all. However, for some, the fame or career may be too much to handle  or the pressure of the expectations to succeed like their parents or peers. Some might have classmates or peers who make assumptions about their name or worth. “they always assume that I am rich even though I am not” says Delilah. They also think that 'cause my mom has money I am bragging about her money and spending it on expensive clothes like designer clothes. And[they] think that I am a spoiled brat, but I shop at Goodwill and sometimes shop in New York.” says Delilah.

As some individual’s parents ' voices or faces are familiar to fans, they don’t fully understand the impact they have on everyday life, including their family. Being a celebrity can be different starting with what their careers may entail, their fan base, their community, their families, and how they spend their time or money. Each celebrity’s voice matters in its own and unique way. “How my mother’s voice shaped me into the person I have become is that she inspires me to follow my dreams and help those in need, and be there for people that I love. My  mom does great things on the air, she gives advice to people who need advice to help them with their love stories or problems. At home she uses her voice to help kids in Africa,  raises her kids and grandkids, helps them become the person they are today. She has helped me become the young woman that I am today by her wisdom and her share of experiences as a young woman.” says Delilah.

Each person has their own unique story and voice that makes them special to what they do or what they care about. A person’s voice makes a whole difference to their family, friends, relationships, fans, and business.  Every voice matters, especially influential people who have many supporters and have leadership skills.  “Growing up around a powerful female voice  helped me see who I am as a young woman in today's society. She has helped me be more confident with myself and around others. Before I was having a hard time coming out of my comfort zone, cause i was worried about what people thought of me, but she helped me build that confidence and showed me that being a woman in this world is a blessing and that i should be proud of myself and don't let people define of who I am today,” says Delilah. 

Being a child of an influential person has its perks and challenges from the outside world. Some may influence others to become into their own unique personalities. Some may live up to the expectations of others, while others may go into a completely different direction. However, it’s important to remember that just because you are a child of an influential person, you are still your own person with your own path.
