PLAR

PLAR stands for Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition

For Yorkdale Adult Learning Centre Students:

Ontario secondary school students require 30 credits in order to get your Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

PLAR is a process where we recognize your education, training and work experience OUTSIDE of the Ontario secondary school system to help you obtain equivalency credits, helping you achieve your Ontario diploma faster! 

You will need to discuss your eligibility to apply for PLAR equivalency credits with a counsellor in Student Services.  

Students will be required to take the GLS4O course.  Speak with a counsellor for more information and to discuss your eligibility to apply for PLAR equivalency credits with a counsellor in Student Services.  

A student will need to have met the following criteria to apply for the GLS4O course for PLAR:

• Attend Yorkdale ALC or another TDSB Adult school (CALC, Emery, Burnhamthorpe, or  SCAS) for at least TWO quads.

• Earn the following courses that CANNOT be granted through the PLAR process so MUST be earned by students in Ontario:

1. Ontario Literacy Course: OLC4O

2. Grade 12 English:  ENG4C or ENG4U

3. Any grade 11 Mathematics:  MEL3E, MBF3C, MCF3M, or MCR3U - or have completed a math assessment at the senior Math level

4. Any grade 11 or 12  course in Math, Science, Technology, or Business

NOTE:  As part of the GLS4O course, you will be asked to upload various documents if they apply to you. This includes educational documents, resumes, or other proof of work experience. Supporting documents can be scanned or photographed and MUST be legible and include an English translation if applicable.

NOTE: Mature students who are working under OSS diploma requirements are eligible to apply for equivalent credits.  In order to be granted equivalent credits under the GLS4O for PLAR course, students must demonstrate that their prior learning relates directly to the Ontario curriculum expectations for the course(s) being considered for equivalency. Also, DOCUMENTATION must be provided to support your application through the GLS4O course.
