The animation that I created represents that social media has negative impacts, not only in one country, but all over the globe. People are constantly on their phones scrolling, liking and commenting on other people's posts or pages. My design shows that this hate is spreading at a rapid rate around the globe, just like how rain spreads the same way.

My design encapsulates how social media and games distract us from the problems of the world. In the design, these problems are pollution and forest fires. In the design, the world is divided into two separate parts, the world with social media, and the world without social media. In the world of social media, everything looks normal and fine and the sky is clear. While outside the world of social media everything is polluted and black, representing how social media can corrupt our view of the world and give us a false sense of security, that the world is much better than it actually is.

Social Media can both positively and negatively affect a person's emotional state through what they experience or see online. When using social media, a person opens themselves to possible negativity, however social media can also be used to create support groups for many people. However, you must be conscious that you are being safe online, by never giving your true name to anyone you do not know and trust, and making sure to only interact with people with your best interests in mind.

Social media allows us to connect with people across the world and allows individuals to express themselves through emojis, memes and Gifs which expands the limitations of communication to provide a more genuine interaction. Being active on many social media platforms, showcasing your creativity, developing good communication skills, maintaining a friendly and social presence, and expressing your individuality are all steps to having a positive digital footprint.

Social media has the ability to control your mental health positively and negatively. It can positively impact your mental health by bringing you the happiness of keeping in touch with friends, family and loved ones over a long distance with various social media platforms but at the same time social media can negatively impact your mental health by providing a chance for immoral people to cyberbully or mentally abuse others. Another negative impact is, body image on social media. My advice for highschool students is don't abuse it, take the time to enjoy life and make the best of it, finding things in the real world that will make you happy and improve your mental health. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.

Message:

There is so much darkness in the world these days, but if we use social media to spread positivity and light, then we in turn create our own positive digital footprints. Something about social media that I believe is so beneficial to our generation and the generations after us is that it is a way to spread awareness quickly and to large numbers of people. For example, when the fires in the Amazon and Australia happened, the news spread the quickest on social media platforms. Through there, people were able to gain access to links and find out information about how to help/donate.

My design is about how black culture can now use social media as a voice for social justice issues. The world is very divided and segregated and this is shown by the barbed wire fence. This shows that he is being excluded and marginalized based on the colour of his skin. The microphone signifies the voice given by social media and the three birds show the evolution from staying silent to finally going free and saying their truth. The letters BLM are there to represent “Black Lives Matter” which is an important movement that began the use of social media to make change in the world.

Phones and social media can negatively impact human connection and damage relationships if not used cautiously. While social media can connect people who cannot see each other in person, overuse can isolate the population from the people who mean the most to them. My advice is to use social media responsibly, limiting yourself as to how much time on social media one spends on a day. My animation shows two people looking at each other but is covered by an image of a phone. Once the phone is removed the human connection is restored and you see the people behind the phone.

As people get older, they tended to use social medias a lot more, whether it's for entertainment or to connect with people. Our social media accounts should show the things that are important to us, no matter what they are.

Message:

Do not detach yourself from this world and be aware of the presents in this life. Social media may cause you to feel ungrateful of what you have and leaving your social life. Therefore live your life happily with your friends and family and don’t waste all your time on social media. Spend more time with your friends and family and enjoy these memories, because you can always look back on your phone, but never go back to what you could’ve spent with your family and friends.

Message:

My animation is showing the negative mental impact of using social media. People are constantly relying on social media to boost their self esteem and confidence, and when they don’t get the results they wanted, they become upset. When the man looks at his decreasing follower count he frowns, when he realizes there’s a whole world of endless possibilities in front of him he smiles. That’s the mentality you need to maintain. Anything that happens on social media will not follow you into the real world. Your amount of followers does not reflect the amount of amazing friends and family you have.
