The  MLL Department at RCI supports Multilingual Language Learners enrolled in ESL classes by providing academic and organizational support, access to technology, access to resources within the community through CultureLink and support with transitions within and between post-secondary school settings.

• Curriculum-based instruction supporting students in resettlement, self-advocacy, executive functioning, literacy, inter and intrapersonal skills, cross-curricular support as well as exploring opportunities in and planning for post-secondary

• Experiential Learning through field trips 

ESL A (ESLAO8): Focuses on essential social and foundational English; students acquire fundamental vocabulary and use simple sentence patterns for immediate communication needs. 

ESL B (ESLBO8): Expands foundational language skills for everyday and essential academic purposes, allowing students to compose paragraphs and participate in structured conversations. 

ESL C (ESLCO8): Aims to bridge communication to academic readiness; students read adapted/original texts, make short presentations, and begin using a variety of text forms. 

ESL (ESLDO8): Prepares students for mainstream academic courses by developing fluency, interpreting grade-level texts, and writing more complex forms like summaries, essays and narratives.
