Prior to starting their co-op placement, students must complete all required pre-placement assignments and submit all necessary documentation.
These forms include the:
Work Education Agreement (WEA)
Informed Consent
Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) (for students entering skilled trades placements)
Co-op Contract
Students may not begin their co-op placement until all required assignments and forms have been completed, signed, approved, and the student has demonstrated workplace readiness.
Students participating in the Co-operative Education program are expected to conduct themselves in a professional, respectful, and responsible manner at all times while representing the school in the workplace.
Students are expected to:
Arrive on time and be prepared for each scheduled shift
Follow all workplace policies, procedures, and safety rules
Demonstrate respectful behaviour toward supervisors, coworkers, and clients
Communicate clearly, professionally, and appropriately, both in person and online
Follow expectations related to dress code, hygiene, and personal presentation
Personal use of technology is not permitted. Use of phones, computers, or social media is allowed only when approved by the workplace and for work-related purposes.
Maintain confidentiality and protect private or sensitive information
Accept feedback and direction in a positive and professional manner
Take notes when given instructions
Demonstrate initiative, responsibility, and a willingness to learn
Regular and punctual attendance is a key expectation of the Co-operative Education program. Students must:
Attend their placement daily according to approved WEA hours and the working days outlined on the co-op calendar
Arrive on time and prepared for each scheduled shift
Remain at the placement for the full three hours of each scheduled workday
If a student is unable to attend their placement:
If known in advance: The employer must be notified by email, with the co-op teacher copied, prior to the absence
For same-day absences: The employer must be notified by email, with the co-op teacher copied, by 7:00 a.m. on the day of the absence
If running late: The employer must be notified immediately by email, with the co-op teacher copied
Any missed co-op hours must be made up in accordance with program guidelines and with teacher approval.
Students are required to complete Asynchronous Attendance in Google Classroom daily and on time.
Attendance must be submitted upon arrival at the placement. This process confirms that the student has arrived safely at the workplace.
Morning co-op students: Asynchronous attendance is due by 9:00 a.m.
Afternoon co-op students: Asynchronous attendance is due by 1:00 p.m.
If asynchronous attendance is not submitted by the designated time, the student will be marked absent.
Co-operative Education placement hours are determined by the number of credits a student is enrolled in.
110 hours are required for each credit
2-credit co-op: 220 total hours
4-credit co-op: 440 total hours
Students are expected to complete all required placement hours within the approved schedule and timeframe outlined in their Work Education Agreement (WEA). Hours completed outside of approved WEA dates or times cannot be counted toward co-op credit unless prior approval has been granted and an Amended to WEA is on file.
Students are expected to keep an accurate record of their weekly hours and learning reflections. The Weekly Record of Hours and Reflection is posted in Google Classroom, and hard copies are available in the Guidance Office.
Weekly hours should be signed by the workplace supervisor on the last scheduled workday of the week (typically Friday, or Thursday if Friday is a holiday) and should be submitted by the end of that same day.
