Classic OYAP allows students to explore a skilled trade. Students participate in a co-op placement in a trade-related workplace, where they gain hands-on experience and learn directly from certified tradespeople. While students are not formally registered as apprentices, they begin developing essential trade skills, workplace habits, and industry awareness. This program is ideal for students who want to explore the trades before making a long-term commitment.
Option: half day (2 credit) or full day (4 credit)
STEP to Construction, lets students spend a semester on a job site sampling several skilled trades – from electrical to carpentry, drywall to sheet metal work, plumbing, tile-setting, bricklaying, cement finishing, general labour and construction craft work – to see if one sparks their interest. Students explore from three to seven of these trades over a semester, rather than just one. It also sends them to George Brown College once a week for a dual credit (college credit + high school credit) in Construction Health and Safety, where they also earn many safety certificates to strengthen their resumes. STEP grads end up with five high school credits and a college credit.
Full day (4 credit)
PACE is a co-op program where participating students have an opportunity to explore a skilled trade of their choice within the construction sector, through a co-op experience alongside Toronto District School Board (TDSB) tradesperson employees.
Full day (4 credit)
Accelerated OYAP is an intensive one-semester program that combines a co-op placement with an 8-week block of Level 1 apprenticeship training at a college. Students are formally registered as apprentices and begin earning apprenticeship training while still in high school. This program is ideal for highly motivated students who are committed to a specific trade and want a direct, accelerated pathway into apprenticeship and employment.
Full day (4 Credit)
Information and applications for many of these programs open in May for students completing Co-op in the following school year (Semesters 1 and 2 of the 2026–2027 school year). Some Semester 2 applications open in November. Spaces are limited, and students are selected based on qualifying criteria.
