Community Involvement Hours
Students need to complete 40 hours of community involvement to be eligible to graduate.
Download the Community Involvement Form to document your community hours for graduation. Once you have completed your hours, return this form to your guidance counsellor by dropping it off at the front desk in Student Services (Rm 105).

UofT Science Rendezvous 2024 🧪🔬
Science Rendezvous is a free outdoor science festival meant to get kids and families excited about science and technology. The event is happening at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus, on Saturday, May 11th, 2024 from 11am to 5pm.
We are currently looking for volunteers to help us run the show. Some exciting positions include cotton candy making, showing the world of virtual reality, helping to run the annual UofT Science Chase competition for youth, and many other activities meant to promote science education, engagement and research.
What’s in it for you?

HNPO is hosting a pair of virtual interactive workshops throughout the upcoming two weeks where students can earn volunteer hours while learning more about Ontario Greenbelts, urban sustainability and biological ecosystems. It is expected that participants engage in workshops with working microphones (and preferably cameras) as there will be interactive breakout room sessions. Students can earn up to 3 volunteer hours. The details of each workshop follow:

Rosalind Snyder (candidate for Masters in Environmental Science)

The Greenbelt & its role in helping the surrounding region move towards sustainability
What the Ontario Government was trying to do in 2005 when it created the Greenbelt as part of a larger urban growth management initiative
How the Greenbelt helps redirect growth, maintain ecosystems and watersheds and strengthen near-city agriculture
What the recent controversies are all about from a sustainability perspective
Sustainability Success in Greenbelt
Greenbelt success stories: examples of projects supported by the Greenbelt Foundation to advance ecological restoration, empower Indigenous peoples, build better links between Greenbelt farmers and regional consumers, and make other contributions to lasting well-being
Special attention to the Alderville First Nation’s Black Oak Savanna restoration and greenhouse project

Past Volunteer Opportunities
Bowmore Road Jr. & Sr. P.S. is hosting our fall Carnival on Thursday September 28th from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. This event is 100% run by volunteers and will require a lot of hands to make it possible.

How many shifts would you like to volunteer for?
Shifts will be 1 hour each and the jobs are pretty simple:
· Set up and tear down
· Ticket selling and taking
· Line management
· General questions and support of activities like carnival games / bounce houses
· Some light food service i.e. handing out food (no cooking required!!)
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. that day (most volunteers needed 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.)
WINCHESTER SCHOOL FAIR
The Winchester Jr. & Sr. French Immersion School, is looking for high school volunteers for this year’s Fun Fair.
The school is in Cabbagetown and the Fun Fair is on Saturday, May 27 from 10am to 2pm, rain or shine!
We are in need of teen volunteers and in exchange the teens will receive community hours and will have a great time!
Basic knowledge of French is not required, but if the teen does speak French we'd love for them to take the opportunity to practice at this Event.
Different assignments (a teen should pick based on interest and skills, if applicable) include:
face painting (4+ teens)
French book swap table (2-3)
popcorn machine / sales (2 teens)
cotton candy machine / sales (2 teens)
Non-perishable food donation zone (1 teen)
Food stations (10+)
General (runners/generalized assistants)(2 teens)
Velcro wall (helping people get in / out of velcro suits)
Etc.
Teens will qualify for 5 hours of community service. 1 hour towards prep (emails, etc.) and travel and 4 hours for the event itself.
This is going to be a huge and fun event and we’d love to have your school involved.
