Scholarships & Financing Post-Secondary

Types of Scholarships:

  1. Entrance Scholarships - are monetary awards given to students that demonstrate academic excellence, leadership and/or extracurricular involvement. Some entrance scholarships require students to apply, but many are awarded automatically based on the student's admission average. Student Awards (across Canada) - contains scholarship information for colleges and universities across Canada


  1. External Scholarships:

a) School Nominated Scholarships - these scholarships require a NOMINATION by the school in order to apply. For more information on our school's procedure and deadlines, please see the PDF below

b) External Scholarships - there are many opportunities and eligibility criteria for external scholarships (that don't require a school nomination). Here are some resources to check out:

Yconic - site provides information on scholarships that fits your profile. It provides scholarship, bursary and financial aid information.

Scholarships Canada -a database of scholarships, student awards and bursaries from across Canada.

Student Scholarships - students can create a profile and receive updates based on their criteria.

ScholarTree - Search for scholarships and create a profile

Disability Awards - created by the National Educational Association for disabled students, this site helps students find scholarships specific to their disability (learning, physical, mental health) and/or province.

Student Awards -a database of student awards and scholarships.

Scholarship Report - a bi-monthly publication that we subscribe to and is posted on the Guidance Google Class.

Internal Scholarships:

c) Internal School Scholarships - are bursaries and awards that are offered exclusively to Garneau graduating students. These awards are offered through the generosity of the Overlea/MGCI Alumni, individual donors and community organizations. THERE ARE AWARDS FOR EVERYONE AT GARNEAU - over $55, 000 can be won!

The internal scholarship applications are now OPEN on the Grade 12 Guidance Google Classroom. The form will be open until May 11th. Supplemental applications will be sent to those students who have indicated their interest in awards and will be due on May 27th. Please see the package for more information!

OSAP and Financial Aid:

The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) offers a mix of loans and grants for Ontario students pursuing post secondary education. For more information please visit:
